Artistic redesign of the Löwengasse passageway, 1030 ViennaCompetition winner: Julie Hayward

Artistic redesign of the Löwengasse passageway, 1030 Vienna

The Löwengasse underpass offers a connection between Vienna’s 3rd district and the Danube Canal to pedestrians and cyclists. The zone along the Danube Canal has been strengthened and developed as an important urban leisure and greenbelt recreation area. Relevant measures intended to make the Danube Canal area even more attractive as a cultural space and vibrant neighborhood for both residents and visitors.

The municipal authorities were interested in obtaining a comprehensive design in form of a permanent work of art that would upgrade the place. The artist’s intervention was to improve the quality of the passageway and the insufficiently lit tunnel.

Julie Hayward’s auftauchen / abtauchen emerged as winner of the competition.
