CARGO VIENNAUrban and Logistics Landscapes as Changing Work and Living Spaces

CARGO VIENNA

CARGO VIENNA is a project about changing working and living spaces of Viennese urban and logistics landscapes. On the occasion of the final decommissioning of freight handling at Vienna's Nordwestbahnhof, the city's last inner-city logistics hub, Michael Hieslmair and Michael Zinganel (Tracing Spaces) investigate the socio-spatial displacement of infrastructure facilities, company branches and employees.

With the help of former users of the area as well as experts on everyday logistics and "artistic memory techniques", Tracing Spaces seeks out abandoned working worlds in order to remember and say goodbye together.

In an open-air exhibition at the now vacant truck gas station of the Nordwestbahnhof, remnants remaining on the site are brought together and condensed into a kind of mini hub, a "memory sculpture".

At the same time, connections will be made to the new corporate offices on the city's periphery: From June 16, performative bus excursions will start from the gas station to the current locations of the companies "evicted" from the site. Artistic markers will also be placed at the new locations, thus creating an invisible network through the city.

Nordwestbahnstraße 16, 1200 Wien
