As the final stop on the important and soon-to-be longest subway line in Vienna, the U2 Seestadt subway station has a special significance. As an entry into the city it symbolizes a modern, contemporary town gate in this urban development area. Here, a new part of Vienna is emerging that is marked by the urbanity and modernity of a metropolis immediately combined with the tranquility and life quality of rural lake landscapes. The goal of the discursive procedure Invited Discursive Procedure to an Artistic Contribution as Part of the Design of the Forecourt of the U2 Seestadt Subway Station with regard to the Seestadt U2 station is an artistic contribution as part of the design of the front area to the west of the final station. It is intended to be a meeting point and hub of the Seestadt and is to be seen as a connecting element between the subway trains that come and go every few minutes and the surrounding living, shopping, working and studying city. The artistic design is intended to make the place both a new, identity-founding symbol of Seestadt as well as an aid to orientation and recognised feature of the location.
The competition was initiated by Kunst im öffentlichen Raum GmbH in collaboration with the WIENER LINIEN in July 2013 and tendered in April 2014. The jury of the discursive procedure unanimously agreed to select the project "Die Zukunft der Vision" by Krüger & Pardeller as the winning project.
