KÖR Vienna Curators in Residence-Program in Chisinau and New York

KÖR Vienna Curators in Residence-Program in Chisinau and New York

Art in public space is increasingly seen as work on the community and as such has long since developed into an artistic discipline in its own right. In order to strengthen this, the KÖR Vienna Curators in Residence-Program 2024 is offering two residencies in Chisinau and New York for curators with a focus on public space for the first time.

The program is a cooperation between Kunst im öffentlichen Raum GmbH and the Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs (BMEIA). It is aimed at curators whose central interest lies in public space as a social space and the development of new artistic perspectives and innovative models – from participatory or collaborative formats to strategies of interconnected or discursive action. The aim of the program is to promote a future-oriented curatorial practice, research and discourse as well as sustainable international networking.

During the three-month residencies, the curators are connected either to the Austrian Cultural Forum New York or to the Austrian Embassy in Chisinau. Applications are open to curators with specialist training or a corresponding qualification and a connection to Vienna.

With Sarah Klimbacher (Chisinau) and Ursula Maria Probst (New York), a jury of experts selected two curators whose concepts deal with socially essential issues. They meet the criteria of the residency program with forward-looking projects that have the potential to provide valuable impetus for the city of Vienna.

Sarah Klimbacher will network with local cultural people and search for traces of public and discursive spaces in Chisinau and their use for an emancipatory collective process - particularly from a feminist perspective.
With the project "Get Care Now", curator Ursula Maria Probst, who has been doing dedicated development and networking work in Vienna for many years, has hit a nerve in the city of New York. Probst's research into artistic initiatives for children and young people in New York is highly topical in light of the growing immigrant population in the city, many of whom are children.
