Andreas Fogarasi and Christoph Ruckhäberle - Culture and leisure - life and work
March 30 to June 20, 2019
With "Culture and Leisure", the Viennese artist Andreas Fogarasi takes up existing facilities in the settlement, such as "das Haus der Begegnung" or the "Rundsporthalle" and expands them with fictitious community facilities. The artist designs an effective typographic logo for each individual facility. With the typefaces from real and fictitious places, Fogarasi succeeds in critically questioning the contradictory relationship between the institution that creates a community and its significance as a marketable image carrier for a place like the Per-Albin-Hansson settlement. The artist links this site-specific examination with his 2007 film series "Culture and Leisure", which can be seen in the store at Alma-Rosé-Gasse 2.
The Leipzig painter Christoph Ruckhäberle responds to Fogarasi's graphic work with 12 paintings, which are shown photographically reproduced in PER ALBIN. Taking up Koloman Moser, or rather the artistic tradition of the Wiener Werkstätten, Ruckhäberle produced the abstract series of paintings entitled "Life and Work", whose central element is the female or male figure. Detached from its classical function of representation, the female or male figure functions here as a compositional stylistic device to generate colourful, ornamental patterns. This reflects the attempt to understand the individual as part of a social whole in which he or she is integrated and in the production of which he or she participates with his or her own actions.
