Veza VisiteGertrude Moser-Wagner

Veza Visite

On the 127th birthday of the author Veza Canetti, who emigrated to London in 1938, the artist Gertrude Moser-Wagner invites you to a multimedia artistic program not far from Canetti's former home address in Vienna's second district.

Performance artist Veza Fernández kicks off the event with a performance that refers to Canetti's story “Ein Kind rollt Gold” ("A Child rolls gold") in Veza-Canetti-Park. Sigrid Friedmann and Ulrich Kaufmann contribute with their projections. The group will then embark on a tour of the city with stops for readings and presentations in the studio Steinbrener/Dempf & Huber and in the project space MAG3. On the following day, readings and discussions on the subject of “female patrons” will take place in the project space MAG3.

In 2013, Moser-Wagner and Natalie Deewan created a symbol for Veza Canetti with the light projection “VEZA is missing” on the firewall of Veza-Canetti-Park, thus commemorating the highly talented author – born Venetiana Taubner in Vienna in 1897 – who was overshadowed by her husband Elias Canetti during her lifetime and whose literary work was only published and rediscovered thirty years after her death. Since 2014, the Veza-Canetti-Literature-Prize has been awarded by the City of Vienna and this year the Austrian Mint (Münze Österreich) has issued a 50-euro gold coin with a portrait of the author in the 'Heimat Großer Töchter' series. Veza Canetti never returned to Vienna. Now “the writer allows herself a flying visit to her street, Ferdinandstrasse, in the park bearing her name. Now she is coming back as a patron. Now she wants to appear in this home of her great daughters, because this is where she wrote the story 'Ein Kind rollt Gold' a hundred years ago,” says Gertrude Moser-Wagner.
